Our readers all love the school Book Fairs that help us raise enough funds to purchase 200-250 new books as well as:
- Promote reading and generate excitement for new books/authors via book promotions, book talks and more!
- Raise money for the school library to add new books for our collection for our 800+ student readers to support classroom curriculum.
- Support new literacy initiatives: e-books, technology subscriptions, magazine orders and more!
Why a Book Fair?
The main reason we do the book fairs is to promote reading and provide an opportunity for our students to discover the latest and greatest in children’s literature. The week prior to the book fair, I do many book-talks and book promotions. It’s so great to see kids getting excited about books and reading.
We’ve done the book fair all of the years since the school opened and it is also the main library fundraiser to raise money to buy books for our library. Every bit of the profit goes toward library books. We get 25% of the profit margin from Scholastic, which results in thousands of dollars each year to purchase additional books for our library. This keeps our library current and viable to meet our students’ independent reading needs/interests and well as to support classroom curriculum.
We could not do the book fair without the vital support of our wonderful parent volunteers. A big thanks to the volunteers who help decorate, set up, become cashiers, restock and tear down the fair as well as assist with student wish lists – it’s a lot of work, but it’s fun and important, we would love to have more volunteers!
