What is BOOK IT BOBCATS?
Bill Roberts’ summer reading program that fosters literacy while raising funds for our school. Kids track their summer reading, ask friends/family for sponsorship and in the fall we celebrate their success and give out some pretty cool prizes!!
Our primary goal is to get EVERY child engaged in this program and reading throughout the summer. We want them to come back to school in the fall prepared to learn! We hope it will also help establish reading as a priority and a habit in our kids!
Start with some Summer Reading lists at the Denver Public Library or using Scholastic’s Grade Level Recommendations.
And for younger students, did you know that there is a direct correlation between the number of books read to a child and the child’s reading success? Reading aloud to our child is one of the best ways to help your child become a strong reader. More Reading at Home tips…
Additionally, we have a fundraising goal – since this is our first year, we would love for each student to ask 10 people to sponsor their summer reading and raise $40,000 for our school. Why do we fundraise? More about supporting our children’s education…

Who can participate?
We want ALL students planning to be at Bill Roberts for the 2017-2018 school year to participate in BOOK IT. If you didn’t receive the materials, download the Book It Bobcats Reading Chart and participation chart to start.

BOOK IT BOBCATS is the perfect way to help your child prepare for school and get him/her involved in Bill Roberts right away. Regardless of grade, THIS PROGRAM IS FOR YOU! Key Dates For 2017
Friday, May 19: Kids come home with BOOK IT materials
Friday, May 26: Participation forms due to your teachers
June 3 – September 10: Kids count their reading time!
September 11: Kids return participation form to teacher. All donations submitted.
September 29: BOOK IT Celebration (school-wide assembly)
What You Need To Do
Kids will bring home BOOK IT materials the week of May 16. Parents should help kids set a summer reading goal, sign the participation form, and return to your child’s teacher by May 26.
READ! READ! READ! Use the reading chart to keep track of your hours read from June 3rd – September 10th. Parents or siblings reading to children counts! Kids earn a raffle ticket for great prizes for every 25 hours read! Over the summer, try asking at least 10 people to donate to your reading campaign.
Add up your summer reading hours, donations and fill out your participation forms and submit them to your teacher by September 11. Donations can be made online by clicking the “Sponsor Your Summer Reader!” button at the top of the page or collecting cash or checks (made payable to Bill Roberts PTA). We will celebrate ALL of our readers’ success on September 29th at the BOOK IT Celebration.
