Celebrating Bill Roberts School Performance Framework Scores

Dear Community,
William “Bill” Roberts is celebrating its tenth anniversary in the Stapleton community, and we are proud of the growth and accomplishments that our students, teachers and community have accomplished over our ten years.  We know that many families are visiting our wonderful neighborhood schools as they face School Choice decisions in January, and are receiving many different sets of data and messaging from all of us. In the spirit of transparency, we wanted to provide you with a bit of clarity on a couple of data points regarding William “Bill” Roberts School.
In its November issue, the Front Porch printed a comparison of our local schools’ PARCC data. Unfortunately, Bill Roberts’ scores were not correct in the table.  Please note the correction printed in the December edition:
Bill Roberts Middle School’s PARCC score for English Language Arts (ELA) scores should have shown growth as 82%. It was incorrectly shown as 55%. Also the scores for middle school math proficiency and math growth were reversed. The corrected chart is posted at FrontPorchStapleton.com (click link here). The article is titled “PARCC Tests: What Teachers, Principals, DPS and Parents Think.”
We are proud of the progress that we are making on PARCC, and look forward to making greater strides on the upcoming tests in the Spring. In addition to PARCC, DPS released the School Performance Framework (SPF), its most comprehensive rating system for Denver Public Schools. The Front Porch provided an overview of the SPF and a discussion on the Equity indicator in its December edition.  You may find it at https://frontporchstapleton.com/article/dps-signals-change-spf-ratings-highlight-equity/
DPS reports an overall score for K-8 schools (combining both elementary and middle school scores).  Bill Roberts received a score of 75% as a K-8, ranking it as the #2 K-8 school in DPS.  In an effort to align our data to that of other schools, we are providing you with our more detailed SPF scores:
·       Bill Roberts elementary program received a score of 69%
·       Bill Roberts middle school program received a score of 83%
By using the graph of SPF scores provided by the Front Porch (referenced above), our middle school is ranked the #1 middle school among Northeast Denver middle schools and our elementary school is ranked #3 among NE Denver elementary schools; the top three elementary schools are within 3 percentage points of one another.  Also, like many of our neighboring schools, we are working to meet the new equity indicator provision rolled out by DPS; we are meeting it in our middle school, and will be working hard to replicate that success in our elementary school.
In closing, we invite you to come visit Roberts to learn more about our approach to Whole Child education.  We are offering tours through the end of January.  You may find out more and RSVP by visiting: http://billroberts.dpsk12.org/parents/take-a-tour/
All the best to you and yours for a joyous holiday season,
Trich Lea, Principal
