Middle School Service Learning Club

Dear Middle School Families,

We are excited to announce the kick off of our new service learning club!

The club is available to all middle school Bobcats as an enrichment opportunity every other Friday afternoon.

We believe that service learning and volunteerism are important components of educating the whole child. Through these experiences, children are able to look outside of themselves, and beyond their immediate environment, to gain a new understanding and perspective of the world.

Throughout the year, local experts in various fields of service will speak with the club and provide guidance on club projects. Students will self-select service projects, and assume all responsibilities to implement them from start to finish, to gain skills in technology, project management, marketing/communications and leadership, as well as learn about various aspects of volunteerism. Our service learning club will also organize at least two school-wide events; providing all Bobcats a chance to learn the value of service.

We are starting small by holding bi-weekly meetings; if there is enough interest in participation, we will evaluate moving to a weekly format after the winter break.  To cover a portion of the costs associated with the club, such as oversight and supplies, we are requesting club dues of $30 per student per trimester.   If cost is a barrier to your student’s participation, please contact me directly and we will discuss a scholarship.

There will be an informational lunchtime meeting during the 2nd week of school for students. We will also provide more information at Back to School Night on September 3rd.

Please discuss this transformational opportunity with your student. We are so excited to harness their creativity and energy to lead this effort for Bill Roberts and make us PROUD. We are eager to see our students continue to RISE in our community.

Sincerely,

Ms. Erin Laessle
