Dear Kindergarten families, We have had a big couple of weeks! Our classroom is alive
with sunflowers, ego towers, every beanie baby animal you can think of, stamps,
graphs and, now, toads!! We have officially names our tadpoles (Wally,
Otto and Seashell) and today the three year olds next door brought us a toad
that they found in the sandbox. We did an interactive writing piece to John
Babiak of Nature Rangers to ask the expert what they eat and what we should put
in his aquarium. Let me know if you have experts (or crickets) in your family!
We need you!
In our class you may not see a lot of “product”
coming home but I promise you we are busy. You can see our sunflower glyff’s
in the front hall (kids put petals on based on their age, siblings etc.) and
glyff suns in our window. The kids will not know the word glyff, but they are
happy they can “read the suns.” We will also have our still
life with sunflowers up soon. Here are some of our stations for the week:
ABC: building the
alphabet, forming letters with magnets, forming their names with playdo,
puzzles
Chant Notebooks: Two
new poems: Orange is an orange and Go call your sister I will
send these home as they fill up. The kids
love to read them over and over.
Author’s study: Nancy
Carlson. The kids loved that they recognized her characters in her different
books.
Writing: journals thank you
notes for various things.
Math: number writing, pattern
blocks, graphs.
Art: still life with
sunflowers, guided drawings.
We have begun a few new routines:
We begin our day with a daily
letter. We find words, share the pen to finish sentences and get information
about our day. Each day, one child takes the letter home. EVERYONE will
get a turn. This a great way to set expectations for our day while we are
learning to read. We have assessment days Friday and Monday! Our class will be back together on Tuesday!
We take turns sitting in the rocking
chair, being the line leader and doing other jobs.
·
We make good choices during center
time. Next week I will send home a little letter about our behavior
management plan.
We have a great class and I am so proud of them. They
are quickly getting the hang of things. I know that there are some tears
in the morning, but I promise you they are usually gone by 8:17 am!!
Thanks for all you do. Let me know if you have any
questions. Nita Baumann
PS remember! We have assessment days Friday and Monday!
Our class will be back together on Tuesday!
